The Mission "The Australian wool industry will continue to improve all elements of Australian wool quality and specifications, delivering wool to customers which consistently meets their expectations. This will be achieved through the vigorous pursuit of modern market driven quality management systems at all stages of the pipeline, based on industry cooperation, clear and open communication along the wool pipeline and adoption of innovations." The Objectives 1: To continuously improve all quality elements of Australian wool so customers maximise the benefits achievable from using Australian wool. 2: To maximise the use of objective measurement to describe Australian wool to improve product descriptions and specifications. 3: To raise the level of quality, leading to an ongoing increase in the competitive position of wool relative to other fibres. 4: To have a wool industry which is customer responsive, highly motivated, innovative, well trained and which embraces a continuous improvement philosophy. Wool Quality Guide systems to ensure the Australian wool industry with efficiency and profitability To assist in the development of quality systems, IWS has prepare the Guide to Australian Wool Quality to highlight the quality issues faced by sectors in the early stages of the wool pipeline. The Guide is not prescriptive. IWS does not have a regulatory role in the wool industry. However, it does have a recognised and respected leadership role, and the Guide has been developed: Using the Guide The Guide is in two parts. The first is a summary document. It gives background to and an overview of the nature and structure of the Australian wool industry. It focuses on quality issues for customers and on linkages between the different sectors of the wool pipeline. The second part of the Guide consists of five modules which describe in detail the quality issues faced by these industry functions: The modules are designed to assist businesses in these sectors to improve their own quality management systems. It is anticipated that members of each sector will study their own Module and look for the key quality issues which have been identified as important. It is also anticipated that they will look at the other Modules, particularly those on either side of their own, to identify the quality issues in the other sectors which have an impact on their own operations. The Modules have been prepared by industry experts who consulted widely within their sector to research the issues. Draft documents were then networked widely to make sure they covered the main issues. The format of the Guide was chosen to make it easy to update sections. It is anticipated that changes will happen very quickly and the Guide could easily become out of date. By subscribing to the Guide you are assured of receiving all updates. |
