Dial up Connection Setup


This page has been designed to assist you in the setup of your Microsoft NT Computer. Below I have provided some helpfull steps and screen shot's that will assist you in the setup of your dial up connection. This page will assist you in setting up you dial up connection only. If you wish to have more information about how to set up your Browser or Email Program, please consult the relevent section of The Help Desk.

  • Firstly you need get into Dial Up Networking. To do this you need to double click on the My Computer icon (seen below).

  • Next you need to double click on the Dial up Networking icon (seen below).

  • You will see a screen much like the one you see below accept that you may not have a phone Book Entry or a phone number entered.
  • Click on New.

  • You will see 5 tabs, Basic, Server, Script, Security and X.25. Click on Basic.
  • Place the cursor in the field called Entry name.
  • Type Australia Online.
  • In the Phone number field, Melbourne customers type 9673 8400, or Sydney customers type 8425 9600.
  • In the section called Dial using, choose your modem.
  • Click on server.

  • In the server section, you need to ensure that Dial up server type is set to PPP.
  • Make sure that TCP/IP is ticked, and Enable software compression, and enable PPP LCP extensions are ticked. Please leave the rest blank.
  • Click on OK.

  • You are now ready to dial up your internet connection.
  • This completes the setup of your dial up account. To then connect to the internet follow on below. Before starting, please ensure your modems phone line is free so that the connection process can proceed.
  • Click on Dial.

  • You will see a screen much like the one you see below. Type the username and Password that were given you when you when you signed up with Australia Online, and press OK.
  • Please ensure that Domain is kept blank.

You have now completed setting up your Dial up connection, having followed all of these steps will take you to the point of actually dialling up to the internet.
