This help page is designed to assist you in the setup of you Netscape Communicator 4.x on your PC Windows 95/98 computer. It will enable you to use Netscape for your browsing (ie. proxy setup) and to check / send your mail. We have included some screen shot's of Netscape to assist you in the setup process. These screen shot's are from Netscape Communicator 4.7. There may be some differences here for those who have earlier versions, such as version 4.0.
  • Below you will see the Netscape Communicator icon. To start Communicator Double click on this icon. If this icon cannot be found go to Start, Programs, into the Netscape Communicator section and then click on Netscape Navigator.
  • Once open (see below) you need to click on the Edit menu, then on Preferences.
  • You will see a screen much like the one below. There are Seven menu's down the side, each of these extends into further choices, as seen with the advanced menu.

  • In the identity section you need to put the details that you wish others to see upon receiving your e-mail. This section is not compulsory, but it helps when people want to reply to your e-mail's.
  • Click on the Mail Servers section.
  • The screen shot seen below may be different than the screen you have in your version of Communicator. The alternative screen has an Incoming Mail Server field and an Outgoing Mail Server field. If there are already servers in these fields they will need to be replaced with pop.ozonline.com.au and smtp.ozonline.com.au respectively.
  • In the Outgoing mail server field, type smtp.ozonline.com.au. If there is a server already present this will have to be removed.
  • You may see an incoming mail server in the Incoming Mail Servers list. You will need to delete this. Do this by highlighting the server and clicking on delete.
  • Then click on Add.
  • To add a Mail server, ensure that you're mail server properties are as you see below.
  • Replace <username> with the username you were given when you signed up.
