This help file is designed to assist you in the setup of you Netscape Communicator browser and messenger. It will enable you to browse the Internet and check your mail using your Australia Online Internet connection.

  • Firstly we need to open up Netscape Communicator. There are a few ways of going about this, and it depends on which version of the Mac OS you are using. For the most part, there should be an alias on your desktop (or a "shortcut"), if so, double click on it and open Netscape Communicator. Failing that, go to your hard drive and then to the Internet Applications Folder. This folder will contain all your browsers and e-mail programs. Go to the Netscape Communicator Folder and Double click on the Netscape Communicator browser.
  • Once Netscape Communicator is open, go to the Edit menu and then click on Preferences.
  • You will see a screen like the one you see below. There are Seven menu's down the side, each of these extends into further choices, as seen with the Navigator menu.
  • Scroll down the list of menu's until you come to Advanced. In Advanced, click on proxies.

  • Below you see a screen shot of the proxies section. Place the black dot on Manual proxy configuration.
  • Click on Configure.

  • You need to ensure that you correctly fill in the Manual proxy configuration form correctly. Below is an example of how this section should look.
  • Click on OK once this is completed.

  • Now we need to setup your e-mail account. To do this double click on the Mail & Newsgroups section and then on the Mail servers. You will see a screen much like the one below.
  • Click on Add.

  • In this screen, you need to click on the server name field. In here, type pop.ozonline.com.au.

  • If you wish, you can tick save password. This will force Netscape Messenger to save your password after it's first initial use.
  • Click on OK to close and save these settings.

  • In the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server field, type smtp.ozonline.com.au.
  • Your Mail servers section should now look like this (see below).

  • This completes the setup of your e-mail.
  • If you wish, you can follow on further and setup your News Server.
  • Underneath the Mail Server section, there is a News Servers section. Click on this.
