Outlook Express Setup for the
Macintosh
This help page is designed to assist
you setup your e-mail account in Outlook Express. This will enable you
to check your email from your Australia Online account.
- First open up Outlook express.
There are a few ways of going about this, depending on which version
of the Mac OS you are using. For the most part, there should
be an alias on your desktop (or a "shortcut"), if so, double
click on it and open Outlook Express. Failing that, go to your
hard disk and then into the Internet Applications folder. This
folder will contain all your browsers and e-mail programs. Go to the
Outlook Express icon and double click to start the program
- Once Outlook Express is open,
click on the Edit menu, and then click on Preferences.
- This is where your Outlook express settings
are installed. Down the left hand panel there are a list of menu's,
Accounts, Outlook Express, Network, and Receiving Files. In the Accounts
Menu, click on E-mail.
- The screen you see will resemble the
one shown below.
- Click on New Account.
- You will be asked for the name of the
account (as seen below), type your name.
- Place the dot on POP.
- Press OK.
- The final part of setting up the email
account is filling in the details of your email settings. This includes
the Outgoing (smtp) mail server and the incoming (pop3) server names,
your account name and password.
- The smtp server needs to be set to smtp.ozonline.com.au
- The POP server is to be set at pop.ozonline.com.au
- Fill in the rest of the form as required.
- That complete the setup of your Australia
Online e-mail account.
- We will now setup your news server to
enable you to browse the news groups.
- Below, you see the news section of Outlook
Express. Click on New Server.
- Below is the Add New Account screen.
Type the name of the news server and click on OK.
- You should now be able to fill in the
details as seen below.
- The next section deals with setting
your proxy server.
- To do this, go to the Network section
(show below), then click on Proxies.
- To set the proxy servers, set them as
you see below.
- Ensure that Protocal is set to HTTP
and that address is set to proxy.ozonline.com.au, with the port set
to 8080.
- There is no need to set the user name
and password, leave these fields blank.
- Press OK when you are finished. Click
on SAVE if requested.
